The Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service
Atkin Associates have been rolling out the Quality Mark since June last year following the initial piloting of the standards and awards. We are delighted with the number of youth work organisations across Wales who have: attended training to gain familiarity with the standards; organized workshops for their teams to assess their own performance; and we have now started to receive completed submissions from both voluntary sector and local authority youth organisations. Youth workers tell us that ‘working on the Quality Mark has reminded us what quality youth work means.’
Our thanks to the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Sally Holland for presenting the Quality Mark awards and helping us celebrate the achievement of these two high quality youth work organisations.
The Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service has achieved the Bronze level award
The Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service is a local authority support service for young people aged 11-25. The Vale’s model of delivering youth work together with partners ensures quality provision for young People.
Assessors were particularly impressed by the many ways in which young people are involved in decision making throughout the Borough, the good relationships with young people and the many opportunities workers create to celebrate the achievements of young people.
Cwmbran Centre for Young People has achieved the Sliver level award
The Cwmbran Centre for young people is the first to gain the Silver award and we would like to congratulate them on their achievement.
Cwmbran Centre for Young People provides young people with open access youth work, vocational training, advice, information and guidance and counselling.
Assessors found there is a strong culture of inclusion and respect throughout the organisation and young people feel safe. Vulnerable young people gain confidence and skills through their involvement, overcoming personal barriers and going on to achieve qualifications, volunteering in their community or entering employment.
